Savath & Savalas

Download – Apropa’t

Download – La Llama

From electronic hip-hop and lo-fi producer Guillermo Scott Herren, better known as Prefuse 73, comes his side project Savath & Savalas. Downtempo, atmospheric and ambient. It sounds like waking up next to a beautiful woman on a Sunday morning, in Spain and then having her sing to you for a week. This is some of the most relaxing, soothing headphone music I own, and since most of the lyrics are in Spanish you can really zone out. Herren makes use of natural samples like waves, and people walking around the kitchen to create soundscapes and some tight tracks.

Beat Connection – Surf Noir EP

Straight out of some surf shack on the island where they filmed The Beach, the Beat Connection dropped some L and made some chilled out electro/pop that sounds more tropical than Jimmy Buffett. This shit is different. Check it.

Gramatik – Beatz and Pieces Vol. 1

The wait is finally over for Gramatik’s first album. Just as advertised, this is a blend of his hip-hop and electro styles featured on the Street Bangerz series and and No Shortcuts. Don’t know what to think about this one, my expectations might have been a little too high. I would like to know y’all thoughts on it.

holy ghost!

A DFA artist bringing you some of the cheesiest shit you’re going to hear all summer.
“Static On The Wire”

Gramatik

If you love hip-hop instrumentals, you need to check out Gramatik. Born in Slovenia, this guy grew up listening to American funk, jazz, soul, and of course, hip-hop. By the time he was in his early twenties, he had developed a rep as one of the top producers in the Slovenia rap game (yeah, they have a rap game). Apparently, people in America have also started to feel his stuff.
Recently signed to the newly established Pretty Lights Music Label, his first album drops on July 12. From what I’ve heard, his new shit will have live instruments to spruce up his raw, hip-hop style into something that will make you want to dance. I can’t wait for that, but if you’re a hip-hop head, his earlier mixtape series, Street Bangerz, is something you gotta have in your library. This is the type of stuff that will keep your head nodding for hours.

“So Much For Love”

Tycho – Past is Prologue

Tripped out, downtempo electronic. It’s the opposite of dubstep, get it while you can.
